just last sunday myself and mate phil logan have statred watching the area from the two garden centres upto the motorway and along the new golf course up to the farm we have selected three areas to use as feeding stations and are listing it as our local patch will up date with sightings

Back to Pennington Flash in the afternoon saw the 2 Black Necked Grebes
also a male Blackcap at the feeding station and a few Swallow'...
I had a trip over the Snake Pass today to see the Great Grey Shrike. I had good views from the A57 between the lay-by East of Cutthroat Bridge and the Strines road. Quite a few other birders were there taking photos.

Had the female Lesser Spotted Woodpecker again late this afternoon.
Flew across my path giving cracking views for 15-20 mins.
Again the same section of woodland not 30mtr from the `old wore stone west`
Again between 1500-1700hrs, sadly still no male to be seen, yet!

My mounting plate shoe bit on my scope has lost a bolt, well some time ago now, but i have only just got round to trying to sort it out!

I received an indirect report of a Red Kite over Tottington, Bolton at 2:51pm today (observer still not confirmed) and then a report of a possible/probable over Greenmount, Bolton at 12:10 soon after! Clearly worth keeping an eye to the skies.
First chiffchaff of the year for me 7am this morning wardley cemetry[ southeast corner in pine trees near to east lancs road]. do not know if its the same bird but theres been chiffchaff at this exact spot for several years.
