This afternoon over Rooden Reservoir at the eastern end of the valley a flock of about 20 curlew together with a similar sized flock of lapwing in the same area.

Midday - Just seen 30+ waxwings in a large poplar on moston vale, off Church Lane Moston. Also 1 fieldfare and small redwing flocks. I meadow pipit flushed.
The waxwing were very vocal and all flew west towards Moston itself at 12.30pm

Had a day in Lancashire (ex Oldham RSPB Group). Got Ross' Gull at Lytham north of Fairhaven lake. Several hundred Grey Plover. Wood Sandpiper, Black Tailed Godwit,Ruff and LRP at Mythop Flash, Ross' Goose at Pilling and 3 Scaup, 17 BT Godwit and LRP at Condor Green.

30 to 40 lapwings seen flying over the canal near Newton Heath Health Centre about 1.45pm today.
In wonder if these aree our old friends the "Carpet right " lot who used to congregate on that building.[I must say that I haven't seen them on it on the rare occasions that I have driven past]

Big flock of Redwings 30+ just passed through my garden. Diving in the pond, investigating piles of dead leaves and perching up on every available branch.
First ones I've seen for several years in Withington.
I have received a report of a male Red-breasted Merganser at Gorton Lower Reservoir on Sat, 3 Jan, 2009. There have been no similar reports on this forum. Did anyone see this bird or visit Gorton on that day? Any info much appreciated.
