Just thought I'd mention that the following sites (tetrads ie 2km x 2km squares) have not yet been registered for Atlas coverage - if any of them are your favourite patch and you can do 2 x 2hr walks in the period November to February, and 2 hrs twice in the breeding season in 2008, which will also count for...
Great title to a posting and it is what I was given as a job today, it turn out to be a woodcock, them low and behold an hour later back at sale water park picking up a sparrowhawk, both have injuries and will be kept in care until released.

I have just had a late report of a Firecrest from Peter Day in his Sale garden, always a favourite spot for them - he's had a few over the years as he backs onto Brook Wood which is a conifer wood. It was in the 3rd week of October (date to be notified) when I was away - he did ring me about something else but had to...
Report of Leach's Storm Petrel at Sale Water park just before dusk on RBA. Isn't this quite a good Manc bird? Might nip there first thing in the morning.
Cheers. Henerz.
For some reason unknown to me I am no longer receiving e-mail alerts from replies to threads to my inbox. Instead there are now being re-directed to my spam floder and getting lost with the stacks of trash and I'm missing them. Hope it's a temporary glip.
Never mix mix gremlins with luddites
Whilst Ken Haydock and Jill Mills were doing their atlas tetrad yesterday (11th) they had a male Hen Harrier at Green Nook, Coal Pit Lane, Smithills Moor and 13 Crossbills flying from Walker Fold Woods NE towards Sheep Cote Farm.

just heard on the news bird flu again on a turkey farm on norfolk/suffolk border

I'm sure you are all aware - any sightings now should be reported for the BTO bird atlas and the Manchester Bird Atlas !
I suggest you include the Tetrad alongside any sightings.

Watergrove 08:20 to 10:15 hrs. A male Ring Ouzel gave cracking views perched in the open on a Hawthorn bush on the edge of Million Tree Wood, before flying off south towards Wardle. The first ever November record here. A Kingfisher was also a first for November. It looks as if these birds are determined...
