I managed an afternoon at Newbiggin (my first visit) whilst visiting relatives in Morpeth and enjoyed seeing the activity from Church Point. It was lovely to see so many adult and juvenile Gannets moving up the coast, along with Fulmar, Kittiwakes and Sandwich Terns. I also saw a smaller number of Gu...
Just back from what was essentially a family holiday at a little place called Low Hauxley near Amble. It was a lovely place with the beach of Druridge Bay only yards from the front door and Coquet Island visible from the upstairs window.
Doing any birding was always going to be a bit difficult but fort...
Looking at the pressure charts for next week we should be in for a run of south easterly winds from Monday till Friday. These winds are originating from quite a way across the continent and should produce a few Black Terns from Tuesday onwards, fingers crossed.

Took a short trip from Cheshire into the Clocaenog Forest today to have a search for Tree Pipits. After trying some previously good sites (on hearsay from other birders) I found them all to be grown up from when they were good for this species. Conifers have this annoying habit of quick growth (), I lost...

After a bad breeding season last year with only 9 pairs producing 11 young we are back on track this year with an excellent total of 24 pairs with 51 young, the highest total of young since we started.
Common Redstart and Willow Warbler by Errwood Reservoir but strangely no Common Sandpiper yet. No luck with Ring Ouzel at Danebower but plenty of Wheatear. Also bizzarely no sign of Red Grouse. Loads of motorbikes - more like the TT up here.

I couldn't find a thread for this...........a small compact reserved section of land in between the warehouses on the South Side of the Manchester Ship Canal opposite Fiddlers Ferry. A very pleasant walk around the fields just north of Shay Lane, easily accessed off Butterhouse Lane on sunday afternoon produced a Lesser Whitehthroat in full song in the hedgrerows with 4 swallows overhead and 2 Chiffchaffs in song. There were also some winter birds around still, with good number...
We went over to St Helens, my wife's home town today to visit family. Had the chance to wander around Taylor Park for half an hour or so. Pleasantly surprised to see how healthy the boating lake is looking - haven't been there for years. They seem to have an aeration system similar to Salford Quays and the...
Hi, I recently dropped my bins on my last birding on a trip to Jordan. Does anyone know the best (and cheap) place to repair them? They are Viking Vistron. Ian
