Regulars will have noticed a fair bit of editing to this forum recently and quite frankly tough!
A minority of posts and posters have seemingly attempted to bring this forum down to Birdforum levels and if you don't know what I'm on about there, I suggest you take a look at the latter forum at the sta...
Madrid 05/04/16 Whilst enjoying a free morning birding Casa de Campo (one of my regular sites here) and noting everything possible, I heard the " kek..kek..kek" type calls of what I expected to be a kestrel. However on scanning the overhead trees I was surprised to see that the culprit was a perched b...
Arrived here just a day ahead of a general strike (how lucky is that?) and found that my granddaughter ( six in January) has developed an interest in birds. Is there some genetic malfunction involved here? We started a casual list in the local park where an immediate problem materialised in that the ho...
23rd January. I have put previous postings for this site on the Odds and Sods thread but seeing as I have taken on this area for this winter and the coming summer for coverage for the BTO 2007 - 2011 Atlas and GM Breeding Birds atlas projects then I thought I might as well start a new thread!! I visited Drink...

Hi al, since I have had lots of contacts which I have replied to individually I will pop a note on here too. The Focalpoint Forums are down at present whilst our web master migrates the site to a new server. He is trying to do all he needs as quickly as possible and I will post on here when it is restored in case...
I have a Song Thrush with a broken wing in my garden in Leigh, I have tried a number of places for help without success. Can anyone suggest who would assist. Eddie King
Early morning visit for the Black-Throated Diver which gave good views near the dam before moving across to the far end. Amazing just how long these birds can stay underwater!!!!
Also 3 Female Common Scoter, a Goldeneye and a few Redwings worthy of note.
On way back popped in at Westport Lake for a...
My partner thought she saw a partially leucistic blackbird n the Church garden last year which I dismissed as a bird potentially covered in poo!
But she was right, there is a partially leucistic blackbird seemingly living in the garden of Chorlton Methodist Church which is situated on the small Ma...
Few who visit Pennington Flash nowadays knew Tom Edmondson, the true pioneer of local conservation, but many visit and enjoy the hide there named in his honour and probably wonder who he actually was. Unfortunately, Tom passed away recently and the following tribute is reproduced with the kind per...

I have a home patch that I visit regularly in daylight but rarely at night so I have very few records of owls. However I am sure that owls are present here as other observers do occasionally record them. However I have consistently failed to find owls with early evening visits. I wonder if anyone knows if...
Hi all, I recently had my 40th birthday. (Yes I now feel very old!!) I was very kindly given money off friends and family to go towards a new camera. I was planning on paying some money towards it and getting a Canon 7D. I know there are some very good wildlife photographers on this forum and I would be inter...

The Kowa 1.6x extender is now in stock. Having tested it previously I am very impressed at this little piece of kit. It increases to power of eyepieces on the Kowa 880/770 Series scopes and is probably best used with the zoom. The RRP is £249. It came into stock yesterday but we have limited numbers, plea...

What I think is a female Peregrine has been around Chorley town centre for some weeks now. It has rings (darvics ?) on both legs and a Chorley NATS member has suggested that it could be from the Manchester city center site. Can anyone help shed some light on this situation ? I'm looking to part from my trusty friend of 4 years, this "entry-level" zoom lens giving 150-500mm at F5-6.3, with HSM quiet autofocus and Optical Stabilisation (OS, Sigma's version of VR). The optics are in perfect condition, and the autofocus and OS working fine. There are some superficial wear...
Sunday late morning. Took the chance on maybe getting some Gull Lifers at Hampole tip after some scarcer Gulls have been reported last few days, but unfortunately couldn't get near to where the tip site supposedly was. I'd asked a few locals who hadn't heard of a tip as such in Hampole but they did direc...
