This has just made me laugh out loud. Flicking through the channels for a half hour program before a darts match, ITV4 The Chase Celebrity Special comes on, one of the contestants is Tony Audenshaw who plays Bob in Emmerdale. Bradley Walsh asks him his interests to which he replies Birds and Birdwatch...
Made an early start today to Flamborough North Landing with John Barber. Unfortunately not early enough as we missed the Crag Martin by about half an hour. During the day we had a good look around for it, we were not alone, I have never seen as many birders in one place before. Even with all of the searchin...
A Firecrest was in Gower Hey Wood, Gee Cross, Tame valley today (info thanks to Judith Smith). There appears to have been a little fall of Firecrests throughout the country today so perhaps it was associated with that? -- Edited by Ian McKerchar on Wednesday 14th of October 2015 06:36:15 PM
just sat in a meeting at work when I heard a Yellow-browed Warbler calling in the bushes adjacent to our office. It's on the cycle way that runs n/s past Victoria Park, south of the A5061 road bridge. Seemed like it was moving through with a tit flock.

I bought the lens for a trip to the West Coast of Scotland with the idea that I would use it for photography while birdwatching. Over time I've come to realise that I enjoy just watching more than taking photographs, so I'm looking to sell this to fund a 'scope of some description. I'd be happy to discuss p...

Originally posted today by Jason Fisher: just had a flock of a dozen crossbills fly straight over my head while stood outside the front door in gamesley. they were heading in lees hill direction (east) this came as quite a shock, there's a rather bright red male in with them. but that's as far as i got in i...
I cant see why there is a Pink Footed Geese sighting thread, thousands are arriving,Does it matter if you see groups of 10,50 or Hundreds or what Direction they are flying in. Surely its the count at their final destination that counts,to see if there is an increase or decrease of visiting numbers
At this time of year, usually in the garden, I see a piece of bird behaviour that I find puzzling. Namely - Chiffchaffs chasing other birds - Willow Warblers seem to be equally prone to this. Typically, a Chiffchaff will remain motionless for a brief moment, apparently watching a Blue Tit (the Tits are...
Surprised to see at least two nests still occupied by young and being visited by feeding parents. Is it usual for House Martins to be this late? I would assume this must be a second or even third brood for this season?
Hello All. I was just wondering if the Crossbills around Winter Hill appear annually at this time of year? We've been searching for the last couple of months but without success. Many thanks Chris
This is my first post on here and was wondering if someone could clear up the mystery of a long pink bird that flew into a tree overlooking the middle lodge. I heard it twittering to itself rather like a parrot. Managed to get a pic albeit without a proper view of it's head, although you can just make out it'...
On Monday 14th September whilst driving on Greenheys lane ( near the brewery) off Princess road, 7.15am, a flock of swallow type birds (about 30) crossed in front of me at windscreen height, they were twisting and turning like swallows but there was a definite bright green colour on them. What would t...
I thought I knew but apparently not! I live near Lowton High school not far from Pennington Flash. When I drive down Winwick Lane towards Lowton (i.e. south of the East Lancs) I pass a sign which says "Welcome to Wigan, Lowton". I pay my council tax to Wigan Council. However, my council tax bi...
