I viewed the flashes from just past a farm with houses set back from the canal on opposite bank.
I c...

A message to Ian. For some reason I am unable to send emails to you, not having any problem with other email addresses. So wondering if you have been having problems or whether the problem is at my end.
Just to say there is now a field map for Carrington Moss and Sinderland / Dunham area, so that a field number can be attached to any records, for conservation purposes. I've sent this by email to everyone I can think of, but if anyone else wants a copy, please contact me at judith@gmbirds.freeserve...

I've also had a Firecrest in my garden, on Valentines Day 1990 , first viewed from the 'kitchen' window of a bedsit whilst putting the kettle on!, directly opposite where I live now in Chorlton. Now that's the way to find birds!. Seems it escaped the 1990 bird report .
Adrian Dancy range me today to say that a pair of Ravens entered the clock tower at Manchester Town Hall this morning, but were eventually chased off by a pair of Peregrines. Colin Brooks, the steeplejack who does our Peregrine work for us, also watched all this!

A late call I know but I couldn't get to a computer yesterday (not necessarily a bad thing ). Dave Winnard had a Short-eared Owl hunting in fields to the east of Ashworth Moor Reservoir yesterday (info via Dave himself).
I have had a report from Dave Wilkinson of a redhead Smew on the R. Irwell in central Manchester, on 28th January. I've emailed Dave to ask exactly where, but this is a different bird to the Wigan one.
