Pete Berry and I ventured out onto Chat Moss, albeit rather briefly today and the first large stubble field on your right (heading south) past Olive Tree Farm (which is the one after the one with a canal barge outside!) looked especially promising with a large flock of over 300 Linnets, large numbers o...
Steve Collins had 2 Pink-footed Geese 'paddling' around Horrock's Flash yesterday whilst he was catching up with the Smew (still present). 'Downed' birds aren't that common, so has anyone else seen these birds before this date (or even today perhaps?). (Thanks Stev...
Again on Pearson's Flash today. Some Blackburn birders told me they couldn't find the Smew, but didn't go myself as too busy with the media! (see birding discussion page)
I am scheduled to do an interview tomorrow about Ruddy Ducks on BBC NW Tonight - the interview is to be recorded earlier in the day but I suppose they will show it in the evening. Apparently the RSPB NW office have refused to appear - presumably as they can't defend their stance! I did one today with B...

If the finder is out there and would like to discuss it privately, then please feel free to contact me (details on the website), otherwise it could become one of the co...

For anyone reading this before leaving work/home, the M60 was closed between junctions 10 & 11 over the ship canal at 3pm. I saw a toppled lorry and the tailbacks were horrific in both directions. Also a fallen tree in Northenden had totally blocked Palatine Road. -- Edited by Ian McKerchar at 19:30, 2...
Just a quick note to those already 'competing' in the Tournament and to those who may be thinking of, but Ian Woosey has just donated a brand new, unread copy of Ian Wallace's superb new book 'Beguiled by Birds' as a prize for the winner at the end of the year . Cheers Ian! Details ca...
Hi everyone, just signed up. Can anyone tell me if the Ring necked duck is still in the Rivington area? Went a couple of times when it was reported before christmas but never saw it mainly due to bad weather.
Wouldn't mind trying Etherow Country Park this weekend. I haven't been for a good while so wondered if anyone has been recently and if so, what was there and the best route to follow round the park? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Phil
I've been told that there has been a Red-crested Pochard in the Greater Manchester area for the last two days.
Does anybody know where it is at the moment????
Thanks

Have any of you heard anything about Wigan Council's proposed dual carriageway from A49 Warrington Road at Goose Green to Westwood Park? The proposed route will go over Poolstock Lane, past Scotman's Flash and Westwood Flash, and join at a roundabout at Westwood Park. If it goes ahe...

Hi there
Carrington Moss is the nearest site of interest to me in Hale Barns and I've tried to find some of the better areas a few times but have never managed decent views of the shell pond in particular as the path was overgrown last time. Can anyone help with a few directions or hints. Thanks
