In light of most people's acceptance that there is little genuine bird related TV progs of interest and in the knowledge that most people are keen to be entertained or taught more with respect to birds, thier calls, ecology and other related topics of interest I thought a new thread dedicated to the we...
It is with great sadness to have to let Daves friends and the many birding companions he had over many years, that Dave peacefuly passed away overnight. Thankfully he is at peace now and he, nor his family, will have to suffer any more pain. The Lancs and Manchester birding scene has lost a very decent b...

Hi All, I'm a new member, been checking out the forum for a while now and thought it was about time I started to contribute. Just been down to Highfield Moss (between Lowton and Newton) for a walk at dusk (3.30pm - 5.00pm). Sightings as follows: - Blackbird - many Wren - many Yellowhammer - 10 Crow - many S....
Separate thread from the the one discussion state of play at Pennington entitled "RE: Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club anti-gull stance!?" which muses on habitat decline and younger birders..... I was introduced to birding in the 1970s via relatives of a Yorkshire based RSPB group, monthly meetings...
As we were in the area decided to call in and have a look. 2 Spoonbills feeding out on a gulley cutting through the beach at low water was a good start. On the reserve itself really good numbers of breeding terns, mainly Sandwich but also Common,Arctic and Little Tern in reasonable numbers many with larg...
Yesterday around midday, 2 ?terrapins on branches in the water by the island in the duckpond (think I could see yellow striping on their necks but didn't have binoculars with me)
Hope it's ok to start a new topic, none there for Aberdeen at all!
Latest leg of our Scottish holiday was our usual trip across to the Ythan Estuary on the Aberdeenshire coast. Lots of Eiders but no sign of 'Elvis' the returning King Eider! Fantastic spectacle of hundreds of terns in the tern colony al...
Such a shame that the Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club at Pennington Flash should see fit to embellish their shiny new buoys around the waters of the National Nature Farce...I mean Reserve, with resplendent plastic 'spikes' to prevent those nasty gulls and terns from resting on them. God forbid their...

When I first moved into Astley Green thirty odd years ago there were literally hundreds of Silver Birch trees on Astley Moss SSSI and Bedford Moss. Lancashire Wildlife Trust have over the years removed virtually all off these trees over a massive area,as apparently they help to dry out the mossland a...

I managed an afternoon at Newbiggin (my first visit) whilst visiting relatives in Morpeth and enjoyed seeing the activity from Church Point. It was lovely to see so many adult and juvenile Gannets moving up the coast, along with Fulmar, Kittiwakes and Sandwich Terns. I also saw a smaller number of Gu...
Just back from what was essentially a family holiday at a little place called Low Hauxley near Amble. It was a lovely place with the beach of Druridge Bay only yards from the front door and Coquet Island visible from the upstairs window.
Doing any birding was always going to be a bit difficult but fort...
