Hi all,
I'm doing the usual drive over to my Mum's at Lowestoft, Suffolk over Easter & feel the need to go for one or two detours enroute & back again. Any suggestions of top birding sites? We usually travel down A17 to Kings Lynn & then A47 across to Norwich, etc, but pretty flexible. The on...
apart from the obvious nest-building activities of magpies, rooks and crows; almost complete mistle thrush nest at daisy nook, long tailed tit taking feathers into brambles at marbury park, black swan on nest at haydns pool, wood pigeon on nest at neumanns flash and blackbird on eggs on rochdale ca...
I was in North Wales this week-end and despite the weather saw a few nice birds. At Beddmannarch Bay in Angelsey were 4 Slavonian Grebes and 67 pale-bellied Brent Geese along with lots of waders including grey plover, knot, dunlin. At Pensarn were the 7 Snow Buntings along with a Red-throated Diver, a...
With Easter came the snow. Not unusual here in Norway, especially that Easter is so early this year, but even so, I had planned to check out some Woodpecker localities, not an easy job when there is a foot or more of snow. No, it had to be a drastic change of plans and head for the milder climate of an island o...
Hallo all, I have just returned from a trip home and though I did manage to get to Pennington Flash, there was little of interest. I thought that some of you may be interested in up-dates from my local patch here at Voss in western Norway. If however you feel that these don't belong on this forum just let me...
I work until 9.45pm and the last 2 Wednesdays I have seen a barn owl on the A6 near the Georgian House Hotel {Jarvis} - is it normal for them to be in the same place, same time on consecutive weeks?
Do they have a set area in which they fly each night?
Can I ask everyone who took part in the national winter wildfowl counts 2007-8 to send their forms back to Adrian Dancy as soon as possible, so that the data can be entered up on the county database in time for the 2007 annual report.
Thanks.
Nice Heronry, counted at least 12 birds. Quiet a bit of activity at least 8 nests appeared occupied.

Dave Broome found a Firecrest (presumably one of the 2 seen late last year in the same area) in his parents' garden at Rushdene this evening. The garden backs onto the flash. He thinks it went to roost in a row of Leylandii at the end of Rushdene, which run parallel with the railway embankment and adjoin t...
Hello fellow birdwatchers. I'm going to Spain in under two weeks and, typically, have left things to the last minute. Does anyone have a copy of the now out-of-print Arlequin Press site guide to Extremadura by John Muddeman that they could sell to me or kindly loan to me? (I promise to return it in perfe...

According to this month's Bird Watching magazine there was a first ever Red Kite at Pennington Flash on 21st January. I don't remember this being posted, or did i miss it?
Anyone see it or have any info?
Cheers Dean.
Did my final "Winter" Atlas Timed Tetrad Visit around Mossley and Greenfield yesterday.
As well as the daffodils everywhere and frogs spawning in nearly every flooded ditch and pond (much to the Herons' delight!), some Lapwings had established territories, a Skylark was singing ov...

Had a nice stroll through all the above mentioned areas not much to be seen out of the ordinary but wanted to get a feel for the area. Most notable was a dipper on the river medl...
Very impressed with the Arctic Skua Bird Record Details on the Systematic List, Ian. It looks a hugh task but it will certainly be very much appreciated by me as you add other species on.
Cheers

I am pleased to be able to announce that a Peregrine nest tray has been affixed on the clock tower at Bolton Town Hall today, thanks to our honorary steeplejack Colin Brooks, with help from Ken Haydock, Jill Mills and myself (what a climb up those stairs with all that pea gravel!). It is on the N side of the...
