340ish mostly Black-headed but also some (25ish) Lesser Black-backed Gulls a couple hundred feet high in a tight defined "column" in the air over the wasteland at the East end of the A574 Birchwood Expressway. 5 - 10 Gulls arriving every minute from the South East direction (Woolston Eyes direction). At a guess feeding on flying ants?
Over Grey Mist Mere this afternoon one Great White Egret flying north, then just before the rain at least 30 Sand Martin over the mere and they stayed until at least 18.20
Pair of Shoveler on Whittle Hall Duck pond Great Sankey which seemed unusual for the middle of a housing estate although I've seen Pochard, Tufted Duck and Gadwall on there in the past.
just had the first Osprey of the year going SW over our garden being chased by Herring Gulls and Lesser Black Backed Gulls, a great garden tick , although ive seen them a few times in the last few years over our Warrington garden , heading towards the Mersey.
Overwintering Chiffchaff in the garden this afternoon with its pals , it should be in Africa really as its mainly a Summer visitor but a few overwinter locally, also Long Tailed Tits, and the resident Grey Wagtail today which is not bad in central Warrington

Just to make everyone aware -There have been 5 Muggings in the last week by 3 men with Meat Cleavers in the daytime at Battersby lane were the Waxwings are ,2 of them at back forshaw street were the photographers stand, they have been taking phones, wallets and anything anyone is carrying,so £2000 binoculars and £5000 lenses and cameras will be targeted . I would not venture to that area at the moment with equipment.please pass this information onto your birding friends .
Appeared on the grass infront of the College on Winwick Rd briefly before flying off. I then had it showing beautifully on the small football pitch behind Decathlon. It was minding its own business when suddenly 2 huge Herring Gulls flew in and started attacking it. They were mean looking with strong heavy bills. One of them really went for it, and had white feathers still on the end of its bill after the Iceland Gull flew off. I refound it again back at the college where it stayed for about 5 minutes looking really nervous, before flying off towards MacDonalds and Tesco. I didnt see it again.
- 3 Waxwings showing nicely on Battersby Lane, Orford. - adult Iceland Gull seen 4 times in flight between Decathlon and MacDonalds. I managed to relocate it again on a lamppost behind MacDonalds near The Range but it flew off back towards Winwick Road
Nice to see Rob Smallwood again.
