seemed to be very little adverse affect of the iron man swim earlier in the morning, the wildlife at penny has over the years adapted to disturbance, and I perposefully left my visit until after the race, just to see if it had affected anything, but apart from the mute swans being spread a bit more around the flash, everything seemed back to normal, and the organisation seemed to be very good, with all the extra stuff that had been strung across the flash to guide the swimmers, big yellow infalatable bouys, etc had all been removed and packed away by 12 when i arrived.
Maybe im just getting old,and a bit more mellow, but these sort of things don't bother me as much as they did in the past,
maybe its like Spok said in star trek,
The needs of the many(the general public)
far outweigh the needs of the few(birders on penny and at the moment and believe me there a very few birders at penny at the moment,in fact ive been in empty hides all weekend)
or the one -(Me)

Sunday 1st August will see 1400 people swimming Pennington Flash (blue-green algae permitting) as part of an 'Iron Man' event. This leisurely pursuit also includes a cycle of 112 miles, followed by a marathon!! eyepopping.gif

While that lot are dipping their toes int flash it could be an opportunity for good wildfowl counts on other nearby waters...
