can anyone let me know where you can get good quality bird food from , I used to get the premium bird food from the Grange but they have stopped selling it and all I can find is the cheaper Cheeky Boy or the Aldi bird food, most of which is wheat I think and it ends up all over the floor and I now have a rat and 3 fera...
As the older thread I was using was simply for Cumbria I thought I better start a new thread for a more precise area for the Out-of-County forum's new system. At first glance you may think Sellafield is not a particularly good place to go birding, but the farmland to the north of the plant is remarkable fo...
Thank you for reading this, Today i received a letter from Stephen Cartwright, the head officer for the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, LWT, he is looking for some support to show the interest we all have in these superb mosslands, all he needs is a few letters of encouragement, the more the better, Rather...

A small flock of about 10 Jackdaws have taken up residence on St catherines church in scholes, I watched them late sunday afternoon as they chased a flock of Starlings off the chuch spire, I have seen them flying in the scholes area for a while now. I thought they where rooks at first but after checking th...
Work has started on upgrading the towpath from Bamfurlong Bridge on the A58 to Plank Lane lift bridge. This means that sections of the towpath will be closed off whilst imprinted concrete is laid - currently access is closed at the A58 bridge.
From the A58 bridge to Dover Bridge on the A573 it is possib...
Looking at several recent postings on the sightings page, I notice that some folk are beginning to take advantage of the earlier sunrise, and are out there taking on the world at 6.30 a.m. Now whilst I admire their dedication, and would not seek to question their sanity, I do pose the question: why so ea...
If anyone finds a small (1cm diameter) camera shutter knob in the hide it's mine! I was using my camera to photo the Avocet yesterday, and when I took it out to hopefully photo the Slav Grebe at Audi, it was missing this vital knob. (it's for a Nikon Coolpix 4500)
Now that the reporting of big flocks of Waxwings has dwindled and sightings are now down to a couple or single birds.
Do these waywards who have lost thier flocks, make it back to Scandanavia or get lost en-route or do they stay around for the summer.
Now's the ideal time to count Rookeries, before the leaves come on the trees. I've a suspicion they are in decline in Greater Manchester, so any counts will be very welcome...
Just a reminder that this week is the best chance to see Bitterns departing the area to return to their breeding sites - there is a full moon on 19th. Bitterns may also turn up in strange places this week!
Although I've never seen this, they are supposed to spiral up from reedbeds at dusk.
Northenden is my new 'neck of the woods', so have started to mooch around Kenworthy Lane Woods a fair bit.

Now that another WeBS season has finished, could I ask everyone to send their results to Adrian Dancy as soon as possible, or enter them up online, as I need the 2010 counts for the county report? Thanks.
Also, if anyone has photos they have not already sent me, and they are not on this website, but want t...

Last week and today, we have had 1 male redpoll then 2 female (?mealy) redpolls on our nyger seed feeder. Surprised that one of the...
