Hi, on friday my family are off to the pyrenees on a holiday. Its a family holiday so obviously birding will not be a priority, but in such a place I was hoping to make the most of the new surroundings and supposedly good wildlife. I was wondering, does anyone know any good spots for birding (either in spai...
I found Ian's article about the Greenfield Great Snipe of 1979 and the intriguing photographs most enjoyable. Wouldn't it be something to find one on Horrocks's Flash next month? After all, dreams do sometimes come true. One of the big events this year was the Cley occurrence in early May of an adult G...
Some forum members will already have heard, but there has been some very sad news over the last week concerning a stalwart of the Manchester Birding scene; more for his contribution to the birds than to birding per se. Alf Neild, husband of Chris Neild, and leading light in Shell Carrington Nature Res...

Hi all, Just a quick request for help really - from the thread, this place sounds great and I would like to at least be in the same area as a Quail, so I can dip on it spectacularly. Did anybody see a male Sparrowhawk in Longsight around 8.00am today? It was sat as bold as brass on a lampost on the A6 - Kirkmanshulme Lane junction, looking down on the traffic below. I dismissed it as a collared dove at first!

Over the last five weeks I have noticed a large falcon which I presume is a buzzard. It is usually being mobbed by the local crows and magpies. Yesterday (8th June) I saw it four times. This bird must have escaped from someone as it has a ;I think it is called a jessie, hanging from its leg. The area seen in is...
