I've currently got problems with blue bottles that appear to be coming from a sealed chimney area. It's probably due to a dead pigeon that's got stuck there. Can anyone recommend a chimney sweep in the Swinton/Salford area who may be able to assist in removing the dead bird. cheers Gary Mills

This evening I've seen a short-eared owl carrying prey into a young plantation (but despite hanging around for 30 mins in the cold..this was not repeated). Can I assume this is evidence of breeding ?

Got home from work to find the lid of my nestbox ripped off and the 3 House Sparrow chicks gone. Seeing as the box is 30 feet up I can discount Squirrels as the culprits. I'm guessing Magpie, Carrion Crow or Jay - all of which have been hanging around my garden this week :(
Is it just me or is the adult Dipper drawing on p273 of the 2nd Edition Collins Bird Guide unduly plump? The adult male Waxwing on the same page seems equally so. Or is it just my poor eyesight out in the field?
