10 tufted duck & pochard off the main car park, 14 tufted duck asleep on north side of spit only viewable from canal. Lesser scaup could be with them in vegetation or back at west end, but no further sign for me.
Drake lesser scaup off the sailing club at 9am this morning with 22 tufted ducks. Apparently still present at 11am. Also 2 Egyptian geese and 5 common terns with 1 juvenile.

1 adult Hobby came in low from the NW, chased and caught a small bird (prey not seen due to them both dropping out of my sight behind trees) over the western end then flew off SSE with it in its talons (crappy hugely cropped photos attached)
28 Sand Martins feeding in a flock high over the flash
A good morning birding around Pennington Flash ...not often do I record over 60 species. Highlights were Garden Warbler in the southern section, Common Tern nr Sailing Club, Redshank on the spit, 2 x Little Egret from Ramsdales and single Egyptian Goose just off the Car park

The Spoonbill was a nice surprise this morning just a shame it didn't linger long. Other birds seen included a Great white egret low west over the rucks c.7.35 went low through the trees at the west end of the flash. Single Sanderling and Ringed plover in the spit c. 8.10 but no sign later. Cuckoo calling from the reserve area and at least 5 Cettis Warbler still giving bursts of song from their usual areas. 4 Common tern and a conservative estimate of c.500 Swift over the flash.
3 Ringed Plovers, with two alighting albeit briefly on the spit before moving on and a third on the sailing club shore which was displaced by swimmers and flew to the spit
A high flying tight flock of c54 Black-tailed Godwits which flew over west at 07:46
4 Common Terns
c440 Swifts
2 Linnets, with one straight over the ruck west and another, a male, which flew in from the NE landing in a tree on the ruck briefly before continuing low west
Cuckoo singing from the ‘nature reserve’ area again
A Great White Egret flew in from the SW at 07:40 and dropped into the ‘nature reserve’ area (per Phil Rhodes)
Pretty quiet this morning, single Common Sandpiper on the spit, Garden Warbler singing at the west end, 2 fledged broods of Goldcrest and Great Spotted Woodpecker. At least 5 broods of Long tailed tit and one of Nuthatch also seen.
This morning, a Garden Warbler sang, albeit briefly, at the western end, not far from Slag Lane. A pair of Shelduck look like they might be up to something (), an adult Great Black-backed Gull was present as was the pair of Common Terns and the first young Grey Herons are now flying about the area.
Highlight this morning was an adult Kittiwake which flew along the flash, across Ramsdales and off NE at 07:30!
Other birds included:
3 Shelducks which flew in from the E/SE and landed before heading off NW only to come back in a few minutes later. Two of them were second calendar year birds and the other probably an adult female.
2 Common Terns on one of the buoys (probably Ian's pair) flew off at about 9:20 but a pair (maybe same) were on the spit at about 12
Also of note on the spit at about 12
1 Shelduck - seen asleep at about 11 from the ruck
1 Common Sandpiper
1 Little Ringed Plover
1 Great Black-backed Gull
Warblers...
Chiffchaff - several
Willow Warbler - several/many
Blackcap - loads in the woods, getting more difficult to locate with the leaf growth
Cetti's - several, got a decent look at one of them
Whitethroat - 2, both on the ruck
Grasshopper - on the ruck in the valley below the lock door monument reeling away giving great views and getting attention (because of the reeling) from general members of the public - must have been Colin I met around here unless others also saw the Redstart
Reed - at least 6 in various places but all down in the reeds - no views
And most of the usually seen suspects
