I have not seen anything in the press recently but I have noticed that on Close Lane, Hindley where the propposed route runs parralell with in Hindley, that some people are taking levels for the council for the purpose of the new road. I think they might announce soon something about the Route 5225. I wish they would get this sorted or not. It has hung over our family for 15 years now and it is getting beyond a joke. It will ruin all the wildlife in this area aswell.
Yes, I've been aware of the A5225 project since it was announced, but I thought it had been cancelled. Then a letter comes through the door a few days ago about this route to Westwood Park. It will mean the trees going from along the path near Smithy Brook that links Poolstock Lane and Warrington Road. More traffic noise and pollution through the area.
It's been on the cards for years, Wayne, and originally was to go all the way to Bolton at the M61 at Chequerbent, known at Route 5225. Bolton aren't interested now, as it's of no benefit to them. There was a Public Inquiry in 1995 into which route should be followed (one of which would have detroyed Turner's Flash). The Inspector agreed to the route now agreed, but the then government then announced a freeze on road building. So it all went quiet. Wigan MBC has resurrected it by building bits of it here and there - eg the bits you mention!) then they will have a strong case for joining it up with the contentious bit through the Wigan Flashes. At least it now stops at Westwood Business Park (the new road is already in behind Westwood Flash), and doesn't go across Amberswood Common, Low Hall etc.

Lightshaw hall Flash is sacrosanct - NO paths please!
Have any of you heard anything about Wigan Council's proposed dual carriageway from A49 Warrington Road at Goose Green to Westwood Park? The proposed route will go over Poolstock Lane, past Scotman's Flash and Westwood Flash, and join at a roundabout at Westwood Park. If it goes ahead there will obviously be some disruption to birdlife, and it will be noisy.
