Hi Folks

Sorry to butt into the thread - it sounds from your description that you were at the White House Res. feeding station. The tower and bridge thing are part of the water level controls between White House and Light Hazzles reservoirs. This feeding station is right on the border between GM and Yorkshire, the wooden posts you can see on the "beach" mark the border line.

The Light Hazzles res. feeding station is (or used to be - I don't know if it's still used) is on the concrete ramp on the overflow from Light Hazzles res. and Warland res. This feeding station and the adjacent Warland res. "beach" are in GM.

This used to be my "local patch" until I moved away 18 months ago, although I still do 2 BBS squares up there.

I know this is daft Judith, but I am not sure, having not been there before, and not really knowing where the feeding stations were going to be.
We had lunch and saw them , I think in Yorkshire. We sat behind a tower, facing a bridge thing with steps at either side and a large pipe underneath it. Pity we did not know where the LH feeding station was.

The pub (The White House), Blackstone Edge REsr, Light Hazzles Resr and the south part of Warland Resr are all in GM. The north part of Warland and White Holme are in Yorks. There are 2 Twite feeding stations. One is at White Holme and wholly in Yorks. The other is at the beginning of the embankment between Warland and Light Hazzles, very near the Pennine Way.

We Three went today.

Just up the path from the Pub, and up the bank from the path to the wall of Blackstone Edge Res, we saw, some Curlew and Lapwings. Also two Ravens which were probably over the Road when we saw them from further up the path.
Meadow Pipits and a lot of Skylarks were around in quite good numbers all around

At the Res/feeding station we had lunch after walking round Warland, and saw a lot of Twite - some right in front of us on the ground, and drinking in the beck. A first for me, as I had not heard of them until we thought of this walk.

I had the RSPB on the phone about Twite feeding today - they want to get local farmers onto Environmental Stewardship - so will pass you latest figures on to them.

Hi Ian - I`ve been up to the Light Hazzles area again today - I had 24 Twite. One of the ringing team and a Halifax birder were there, and we reckon we had 40 between us. This is par for the course at this time of year. Numbers should start to build by the end of December to about 60 going off previous winters, although reports from Cant Clough, another feeding station near Burnley, suggest numbers are down. Last Winter`s high was 110 Twite in a single flock in February.

Both feeding stations are being fed, with the Light Hazzles one being lightly fed. The bulk of the feed is at the White Holme feeding station. The ringers are trying to persuade the Twite to stay at the White Holme station as it`s easier to trap there.

Also in the area were 150 Pinkfeet going North West + 20+ Fieldfare Over North West.

Hi Les, are the Twite numbers building up at the Light Hazzles feeding station or are they sticking to the White Holme one ?( i.e. is L.H. being `seeded` ?)

23 Twite on White Holme feeding station early afternoon. 3 Peregrines on nearby pylon. 3 Ravens in the area. 1 male Goldeneye on White Holme Res. 300+ fieldfare over North West. 170+ Starlings over North West. Male and Female Stonechat behind the White House Pub.
