An old birder (not me) used to find out which waders had turned up at the nearby sewage works each spring by listening to the calls made by the local starlings. Not quite up to lyrebird (Life of Birds) standard though.
For several mornings now, I've heard a Lapwing calling near the house (Crab Tree Lane), but near been able to see it. But this afternoon I managed to pin it down to a Starling mimicking a Lapwing!!!! Clever bird
236 Black Headed Gulls on Atherton Park playing fields + 4 Common Gulls. 1 Buzzard - Beefold Lane, 1 Kingfisher on Beefold Pond + 1 on Millers Lane. 8 Grey partridge in field on Millers Lane. Good numbers of Redwing flying over last night.
