Moore NR / Wigg / Port Warrington

Thanks for the update

Peel have a disproportionate influence in this area, esp considering they're an Isle of Man company & with their owner (Whittaker) the richest man in the NW. Not pleased

Concreting over Moore East End back on the cards.

The pre-application to rebuild the rail line, build over Factory Marsh and build a vehicle entrance by the Eastern Reedbed for lorries (errm, why did you need the rail link then) went to Warrington Council on Tuesday. Not sure if pre-applications are displayed publicly my google-fu fails me on this one.

Interestingly the contractor who told me about this when down there in the week said "we'd have probably never got this years ago, now the reserve has been left to decline, get overgrown all and the rare species have gone so we'll be cracking on in 2027".

If anyone can find the link pleased post. I'm not going to post the only thing I could find on google which was an add strewn article in the Warrington Guardian.

Of course there are still a few matters to be solved:

  • The old application assumed that WBC built the Western Bypass over the Eastern reedbed and Black Fields to Arpley Bridges. Not sure the skint council still has that as a live plan.
  • WCML is supposed to be pretty full, can slow freight trains still use rail access via the old low level line. The contractor I saw was working for the railway and they are doing some "Pre-works" already cutting stuff down. Bit presumptive there.
  • There is the perennial spat between Peel/Warrington over maintenance of the swing bridges. Would't it be a shame if Peels own access point swing bridge to Moore / Port Warrington broke down preventing access for lorries. Suspect the villages of Moore won't be too pleased with extra vehicle traffic though the rail guy reckoned that Boats will dock at Moore East Dock, lorries come in at the east end and that they will actually then drive all the way to Wigg Island to the access the M56 via the Runcorn expressways. Not sure whose idea that is but you might get a 8 wheeler grad/much truck over Wigg swing bridge but I doubt you'll get a 38/44 tonner lorry / skelly over there the turns are both 90 degrees on single lane.
  • Someones not been doing their homework. The planning approved HYNET pipeline (green Hydrogen from renewables sources) from Stanlow to Trafford Park comes through Moore. Thats supposed to be "moled" through with the existing Ethylene pipelines. Usually Hydrogen Pipes have an xm no digging exclusion zone. Looks like the old plans have been dusted off and not updated by Peel, the access road and rail extension from the East would be built on this pipeline. I suspect HYNET might have something to say and fortunately I know someone working on that job so they are checking. That would be an ultimate irony. A Green project preventing Peel building two warehouse in South Warrington when there are already hundreds being built at Parkside near Newton.
