This year, on 3rd May Peter and Norma Johnson recorded their 1000th Tawny Owl chick from one of their boxes! This is a tremendous achievement reflecting the amount of time, money and effort they have both put in to helping our local bird life. Peter has made and put up all the boxes himself, for Barn Owls. Little Owls, Tawny Owls and Kestrels (and also many hundreds of Tit boxes too) with the majority of boxes within Greater Manchester.
Also, in 1998 Peter started putting up Kestrel boxes and this year recorded their 656th chick fledging from them. Little Owl boxes have produced 86 young from 11 boxes and Barn Owls 107 chicks from 8 sites. Norma has kept meticulous records throughout and all BTO nest cards have been sent through and recorded.
On top of these amazing numbers Peter has been battling with a rare type of blood cancer but it has not stopped him getting out checking boxes and climbing ladders whenever he can.
