Very sad to hear, as John says a really nice person, incredibly good birder and Lepidopterist. I visited his house a few times to get help identifying small brown Moths which he identified almost instantly.

With great sadness, in agreement with his wife Angela, I am posting to let people know that Chris Darbyshire (or Alex to family and others) passed away on Friday 10th January 2025, following a short stay in hospital. Many people will have known him through his involvement with birds and moths in this region and through his years writing for the Leigh Ornithological Society. The initials CAD appeared in many a report. He was a real gentleman and always an inspiration to others. He will be missed immensely and the coverage of the natural history of the Billinge Hill area will be poorer for it. If any funeral arrangements become available I shall post these for any interested party.

Thats sad news Chris was a great birder and nice person , sort of lost touch with him in the last 30 years but he was very active in the LOS during the late 1970s and 80s , a sad loss to all :(
