I brought up the same thing about too much mowing at Heaton Park Reservoir with the manager there. There is a very valid reason why,they need to keep the grass short so they can check every day to ensure that there are no landslips which can be caused by leaks. It makes sense unfortunately as I'm sure if UU could save money by not cutting the grass they would do.Bit more money to hand out to the shareholders if they could reduce the cost of mowing.
If UU did an internet search they may find that there are devices out there that can be used to detect ground movements/landslides as you say Pete they wouldn't want to cut shareholder hand outs though.

That excuse might work was it not for the fact that, with warmer Winters recently, the grass still grows, but it doesn't get cut until Spring. I've just had a reply to my hedge flailing query in which they cite 'health and safety' as their concern. These things didn't used to bother them until recently. It seems they are afraid of injury claims from staff (or in the case of Audenshaw, the public - who shouldn't be there anyway). And, of course, tidiness is everything these days.

That flailing hedge shouldn't give them too much to worry about Andy, the cutting at Audenshaw is something you have posted previously and I do witness it when I drive along the M60. I hope their emails are in overdrive after the programme on Monday.
With some heavy rain forecast I shudder to think what what will greet me on the river in the next few days.
I thought something was afoot when I received an unsolicited email from them last Friday highlighting all of the good things which they have been doing locally on environmental schemes. Following that, I got in touch with them over the weekend about the flailing of a hedgerow surrounding a nearby reservoir, and since the programme went out on Monday, they have rung me every day to let me know that they are looking into it and will report back immediately. You never know, with them now in a corner, we might be able to persuade them to stop mowing at Audenshaw every week and let the flowers grow instead!!
