RE: Shakerley Mere

Afternoon visit, after a very rainy morning.

Last visited this site 40 years ago on a fishing recon.

Notices here advising people not to feed the waterfowl seem to have worked, there were very few ducks

on the mere just around 30 Mallard, and quite a number of them were hybrids of domestic fowl.

There were no feral geese, Tufted Ducks or even Coots.

Still it is a pleasant walk around the mere, and there are some nice woodland areas too.

What was seen were 3 Great Crested Grebes (2 in summer plumage and 1 in winter, the winter plumage one

was seen displaying with a summer plumage individual.), 1 Grey Heron, 1 Cormorant and 5 Moorhens. Plus a

flock of around 30 Redwings were seen over the mere.
