I spent an hour and a half walking around the Park early this afternoon. Lovely and bright weather although a touch breezy. The park was pretty much empty with just a few dog walkers to be fair. Plenty of dry walkways and some off the path trails through young woodland, I didn't venture over the far side beyond the M57 motorway towards Huyton and mainly stayed around the waters edge. I think I might need to buy myself a mid priced spotting scope, I would love to try digi-scoping.
Spotted:
Mute swan
canada geese
mallard
coot
Moorhen
great crested grebe (a first for me)
wren
Common buzzard
magpie
black headed gull
blue tit
robin
woodpigeon
crow

Hello Gary It was part of an OS square which I surveyed for the last national beeeding bird atlas. A good mosaic of habitats, great for Warblers and plenty of potential for finding migrants. Definitely a site worth watching for anyone living close enough for regular visits. There was an influx of Painted Lady butterflies the year I went, with plenty across the meadows
That's great Dave thanks for the post.....I lived backing onto the park as a kid and still visit fairly frequently so will definatley give it a look.

Hi Gary don't know if it's of any help but Hawfinch were seen in the park at this time last year - so may be worth keeping a look out for them. I believe that the birds appeared to favour a small copse immediately to the right of the Halsnead Avenue entrance to the park but that was last year!!!!
Ah ok thanks Sid that's useful. I think I'll take a look some time soon as it's close to me. Keep you posted.

Hi folks....has anybody ever visited Stadt Moers Park in Whiston. There is a large pond/ body of water with quite a few water birds visible. It is surrounded by trees and reeds and such and looked like a decent birding venue.
I havent been for a while but the last time I visited there was a good number of species......just wondered if anyone had been recently and had any thoughts. Thanks
