Well not the best turn out from Gm birders today, yet an excellent open day with lots to do and see, A lot of thought time and effort had gone into making this a fun educational day out, it was raining outside so no excuse that we were all out birding !!!

I had a good time chatting to the good people of the LOS and friends that set everything up, and yes a purchased a book from the collection, I paid double what it was worth , but hey it going to a good cause.

Thank you to all who put there thoughts and time into today.

Keep Birding.

Ps there was a art exhibition in the library  the works from malgorzata davidek were brilliant.

Jack Critchley, a long-time stalwart of the Leigh Ornithological Society, has decided, for personal reasons, to dispose of his collection of bird books. It's intended that I will make all the books available to interested readers and receive offers for purchases by telephone only on the evenings of Wednesday, the 23rd, and Thursday, 24th November - 01942 605627.
A list of more than 20 titles appears on the Leigh Ornithological Society website. Those which are probably most likely to appeal to Greater Manchester Forum readers are:-

'The Birds of the Western Palearctic'. All nine volumes in excellent condition: no option to purchase individual volumes.

Dean,T. : 'The Natural History of Walney Island' (1990).
Hardy, E. : 'Birdwatching in Lancashire' (1979). Loose pages.
Holland, P. et al : 'Breeding Birds in Greater Manchester' (1984).
Mellor, P. : 'North West Nature' (1987).
Wilson, J.D. : 'Birds and Birdwatching at Pennington Flash' (1985)

All unsold books will be on display and available for purchase at the Leigh Ornithological Open Day in Leigh Library on Saturday, 28th January.
