Does it matter. The gamekeepers know the location of every raptors nest on their land. As regards egg collectors, there are no eggs to collect as the nests get shot out and the adults killed. As for the rest of us we have very little chance is seeing a goshawk never mind finding their nests.
I'm not sure how much control any of us had over that. Perhaps the significance is that this happened on RSPB land (which still covers many thousands of ha in that area)?
This happened on land managed by RSPB Dove Stone on 'the Derbyshire side of the hill'. That's probably as much detail as any of us should go into when speculating as to the whereabouts of rare breeding and heavily persecuted bird species
My sentiments exactly Jamie but I was very surprised if not a little alarmed that news was seemingly publicly released which referenced areas smaller than 'Derbyshire' or 'The Peak District' at the very least.

I suspect everyone concerned, including the police, has a good idea who does each of these crimes. They're not as stupid as many would think. The problem is getting absolute proof when the crime is committed miles from anyone else: lack of sufficient evidence, and the CPS won't touch it.
Having moved away from the region a couple of years ago I'm now only an infrequent visitor to this site. However, having read this story (https://raptorpersecutionscotland.wordpress.com/2016/06/03/goshawk-suspected-shot-in-peak-district-national-park/) with considerable sadness I thought I'd have a look if there was any mention on the forum. I couldn't see any (apologies if I've missed something) so thought I'd start a thread. I used to be a regular visitor to Dovestone, living relative close by, although I wasn't aware that goshawks were active in the area (probably - and rightly - kept quiet for precisely the reasons behind the story), and it's so depressing to see news like this with such regularity. I've never seen a goshawk and thanks to people like this I'll continue to struggle to do so.
