I am walking from Manchester to Liverpool in July to raise funds for Lancashire Wildlife Trust's Chat Moss Project, who I volunteer with and who are doing vital work at mosses in Greater Manchester to help preserve such a unique and biodiverse site for the future, as well as helping people engage with the landscape.
I am hoping to raise sponsorship and I am calling upon MBF members to help. I know many of you fellow birders love the sites concerned, indeed some even call it their home patch, so on a birding level it needs no introduction (as last year's Stone Curlew on Little Woolden shows) but on a wider nature level the mosslands offer a wealth of things to see. Nature is claiming back the sites after centuries of peat extraction and industrial activity and needs our help!
