The news was disappointing indeed, and once again sound scientific advice, a fragile ecosystem and the concerns of the community have been ignored in favour of profit and gain. However, we all will, and should, continue to visit Spurn and now direct ALL of our support to the bird observatory. It is them who continuously strive to improve Spurn for ecological gain above anything else, in turn maintaining its unique and wild landscape that draws us, and the birds, back there time and time again. It is them who offers unrivalled support year after year to birders of all ages and abilities, and have taken countless birders (of my generation in particular) under its wing, making us feel eternally welcome.
So despite this injustice, lets make sure we don't let the YWT 'ruin' Spurn and instead iscolate them by contributing to the continued growth of arguably the best and most forward thinking bird observatory in Britain, at our greatest mainland birding site!

That's right John - location not principle is the issue.

My understanding (hope I've got this right) is that the location rather than the concept, including a car park, is the really big objection, right at the pinch-point of the migration route

The location is after the Bluebell: most of the fields E of the road, the big hedge where the recent Radde's was, the small car park, and all the bushes before the gate

Just wanted to bump this up again.

Because the East Riding Council decided to refuse YWT permission, they have decided to resubmit with, as far as I can see no significant changes. Who knows why! Anyway there is very little time left to object to this - Friday 11th November is the deadline. Please consider registering an objection if that's how you feel.

It's probably worth saying that most locals, and me too, are not against a VC, just one in the proposed location!

A Google for East Riding planning portal will get you where you need to go, assuming it's working which it hasn't been recently.

I'm not going to say whether people should object or not. A visit to the Spurn Bird Obs page will tell you all you need to know. Have a look and if you feel strongly enough about what this might do to one of the best sites in the UK then you might want to take action.
