After a very emotional difficult week and trying to keep it 'bottled up', I had to get out for the day!!! I originally just wanted a relaxing stroll around a nature reserve- but weather forecast and missing a very early morning put paid to that; so I did something I wouldn't normally do and I had a mini adventure twitching the Black throated dIver and Later the Hooded crow.
The entire day using public transport without my bicycle went like clockwork. Started of heading into Lancaster then catching the no.2 bus which took me to within walking distance to Blea Tarn reservoir.
The Black throated dIver was showing very well straight away from 11:15 - 11:45 before moving to the middle of the reservoir and stayed there. There was a group of gulls sat on the water in the middle of the reservoir and twice the diver put them all up when it made a sudden appearance in the middle of them after it dived.
Managed some fairly decent pictures, but it was that dull, I had to open my aperture to full to prevent camera blurr.
Other noteworthy birds was Oystercatcher, goosander, grey heron and a possible female goldeneye way in the distant.
Next.... off to my next destination, Bryn station near Ashton-in-Makerfield.... after some lunch!
8:45 Black-throated Diver giving good views at blae tarn just outside Lancaster. Been around for a few days now. Apparently photographers causing some issues yesterday by climbing over the UU perimeter fence. Chris
