My home patch is a 1 km square of farmland about 3 kilometres North of the Park. I have recorded 108 species since November 2013 with another 6 only seen in the previous twenty years. As my patch does not include any standing water habitat I would expect that you should (with time) be easily able to exceed my patch total. I have had a few farmland birds that may not occur within the park, but I think that you will have many more water birds than I can expect. The only problem I have found at the Park is that because of the trees many areas have a limited view of the sky, and so it is more difficult to notice birds flying over unless they are almost overhead.
1 Ruff (Probably a male in Autumn plumage but distant on flooded field outside Bollington Gate) The Ruff is a first for me at Dunham Massey and brings the park total to 102
Two additions of a Ring ouzel in the early spring and a Red Kite over the past month or so has brought the Dunham Massey list to 100. Thanks for the help with this.
hi Lawrence, a very impressive list, off the top of my head I can probably add to that list & I will get in touch with you as & when I manage to go through all my previous notes & year books & hopefully get you closer to that 100 mark.
I have been a volunteer Ranger and park Guide at Dunham Massey since 2008 and keep the park's bird list. At present our total for birds seen either within the park walls and seen from the park in its surrounding fields is up to 94. This total is primarily from my observation, but I have also taken a few confirmed sightings from the preceding posts.
I would like to compile a definitive list to be used by the Volunteer Ranger team to enhance the work we do in protecting our habitat and interpreting it for the public. With this in mind please view the full list below, with the view to adding any confirmed sightings that can add to the list. I would love to top the 100 mark.
