Some weeks ago I visited the wild wings bird of prey rescue centre within the Bents Garden Centre it was a great couple of hours seeing the birds and chatting to the staff in particular listening to the staff (nearly all volunteers) describing the birds stories. Most were not wild birds but rescued falconry birds who had suffered badly.

One poor Barn Owl had been kept in a flat in a sports bag and was now restored to health living out its life in a proper enclosure.

Injured wild birds are also rehabilitated and support given for local wild breeding programmes such as the locally endangered (but recovering) Barn Owl.

News just appearing in the Warrington Guardian that Bents the corporate garden centre are ordering the centre to close by the end of this month and ceasing trading by the 13th of April.

Unless the birds (90 of them) can be found a home (unlikely with the glut of falconery birds) they will (after being rescued and given a second chance at life) more than likely have to be destroyed.

Its difficult to image a more crass, pity less, and downright greedy decision from a huge garden centre, probably the biggest (and wealthiest) in the region.

It will be a cold day in hell before I visit Bents garden centre again.
