The star stayer here is the Greenfinch. They can stay for ages. I've had had one that regularly stayed for
nearly an hour. Feeding and getting fatter.

With my goldfinches, it's only one that stays for ages, the others just for a short time. I guess the lone one is either very brave and doesn't spook easily or just loves his or her food. biggrin

Whenever Goldfinches do visit my nyjer feeder they will perch there for ages, as you describe, and feed until you think they'll be too stuffed to fly.
We never get more than 3 or 4 birds at a time and there's no competition from other species for that seed.

There's a goldfinch that frequents my feeders on a daily basis. It doesn't fly on, feed and fly off like the others but flies onto the feed, perches there for ages and nibbles. I've seen it stay for over an hour and only fly off when spooked. I'm sure it would stay all day if it could. Has anyone noticed this type of behaviour from other birds?
