A bioblitz is taking place at Three Sisters LNR, Bryn on Sat 15th June with the aim of recording as many species as possible over a 24 hour period. The main public event runs from 11am to 3pm with bug house/nest box building and the chance to view some of the site's aquatic creatures close up under the microscope. However, if you'd like to arrive earlier and help with the recording we will be on site from 7am on Saturday.
This is a great chance to come down and find out about the work of the GM Local Record Centre and the Lancs Wildlife Trust who manage the site on behalf of the Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust. In addition, if you want to improve your ID skills whether birds, butterflies or plants, then you will be able to shadow and talk to experienced recorders who will be carrying out surveys of the site.
Records will be input into RODIS on site and so if you have any questions about using RODIS, GMLRC's Data Manager will be on hand to answer them. A live feed of species recorded will be displayed in the visitor centre.
On Friday evening we will be setting small mammal traps, carrying out a bat survey/walk and running a moth trap. If you are interested in coming along to this please email info@gmwildlife.org.uk to reserve a place and for details of times/meeting place. The mammal traps will be checked early on Sat am.
There is no need to book for the main event on Saturday. More details can be found at Three Sisters Bioblitz
