A male Whitethroat was the first record from this site this year. It was singing and did a couple of display flights confuse a tad late for a breeding attempt!

What a great set of breeding results Mark. I wonder what was the last year in which confirmed breeding was reported for Sedge Warbler in Oldham Borough ?....you probably weren't even born then? Has there been one in recent times (or even ever?) - there were no confirmed records during the period of our first local breeding birds atlas (BBGM) 1979 - 1983. It must have been really exciting for you to find these birds locally through your own efforts and then follow it through to a successful conclusion.

Cheers,

Bill.

The Sedge Warbler showed briefly (15.34- 15.36) this afternoon, attempted to sing, assessed the strength of the breeze and went back into cover..biggrin Unsurprisingly, neither sight nor sound of any Grasshopper Warblers, but Willow Warbler, Whitethroat and a Blackcap on the walk in from Delph village. Mallard with 10 ducklings on Hull Lodge Dam

18 other species on the walk from the village to the bottom of Lower Castleshaw dam inc; Grey Heron, Curlew, Common Swift, 4 Reed Buntings (m), 2 Grey Wagtail.
