Holly Blue today at Firs Park. Several Banded Demoiselle active along Pennington Brook between St Helens Road and Hope Carr.

Thursday 10th August, a Hummingbird Hawk Moth was around amenity planting and front gardens at Eyet Street near the town centre

A minimum of ten Roesels Bush Cricket calling today to the west of Westleigh Lane, nr to the former railway which runs through to Leigh Road

 Hi Dave, looks like a species of Mining Bee but there are over 60 species of them in the UK & a lot of them look very similar - the nearest I can find is 'Andrena Bicolor' or 'Gwynne's Mining Bee' which is common in spring.  Lez.

On open space at Staveacre, just north of Hope Carr, 2 fresh Speckled Wood, feeding on Dandelion, also a Tawny Mining Bee and several of another species I have yet to identify. Can anyone suggest what it is from the photo?

3 Hornet Mimic Hoverfly Volucella zonaria today at Buddleia flowers on the roadside where Kirkham Road crosses Pennington Brook, huge impressive critters

Ran it past a few folk and it was identified (by Ste Culley) as a Ruby Tiger moth Butterfly Conservation

No birding for last couple of weeks due to kitchen renovation & yesterday had this little devil destroy a freshly sprayed

kitchen cabinet door. I managed to rescue it & take a pic but have not a clue what it is - Moth, Wasp, Bee, Beetle or other

insect. Nearest match after an hour on Google images came up with 'Milkweed Tussock Moth' (Euchaetes Egle) but that's only found in N. America & Canada.

'Doc' maybe you could shed some light on it?

Nice quiet afternoon sunbathing until a 'Hairy Footed Flower Bee' landed on my hairy chest & frightened the life out of me!

Also a very colourful 'Green Shield Bug' (Pic Attached).

3 Ruddy Darter together today near Westleigh, on the dismantled railway between Westleigh Lane and Leigh Road, not far from the waterbody north of Abbey Lane. Also a Holly Blue along there

one of the grimmest footpaths known to man, between Guest St and North St (behind Drummond Way) was brightened up today by 2 Holly Blue feeding on Bramble, also 3 Red Admiral, 3 Speckled Wood, Small White and a Large White

Tues 30th July Public open space around margins of football pitch north of Abbey Lane/Melrose Avenue, Westleigh plenty of butterflies active - 1 Small Copper, 50 plus of both Meadow Brown and Gatekeeper, half a dozen Large White, 20 plus Small White, 19 Small Tortoiseshell, 4 Peacock
