Only one surveyor actually managed to see a roding Woodcock but, in the words of the old mantra, negative results are as important as the positive ones.
Take-up of sites for the Breeding Woodcock Survey has been rather disappointing, so I thought it might be best to list available sites here. These are in order of importance:

I still have several sites to be surveyed. These can be found by going to the survey website (see below), logging on and choosing "select a square".
A note of caution. This survey is to be undertaken at dusk, so will involve being out after dark and maybe not seeing any birds! More than usual health and safety precautions advised.

This year the BTO will be surveying breeding Woodcock. Members will receive details in the February BTO News.
I have already been given a list of sites to survey. However, the last Woodcock survey was in 2003, just before I took over as BTO Rep and after my predecessor had resigned, so I have no record of those who participated 10 years ago. If anyone reading this did the 2003 survey in the Manchester region, could they please contact me via Private Messaage or direct e-mail?
