RE: County Garden Birds on Sightings Page

I cant see the point of people letting us know what they have seen in there Gardens without the locality.
One of my favourite Birds is The Goldcrest and when one is reported in a Garden,I would love to know which area they frequent.
Although trivial to some,To me it makes the posts more interesting.

Thanks for all the input regarding this subject, I fully appreciate both sides to it but the status quo remains.

Ian, should the 'County' bit of 'County Garden Birds' be strictly adhered to?

In other words can I post sightings in my Roby mill garden (just in Lancashire)

Yes Rob it should. All out of county sightings go in the out of county section.

Its so annoying when members post sightings on the page, and dont put which area their Garden is located.

As well as Ian's comment, I think most posters do put the general area the first time they post on the thread.

Cheers

Annoying? That someone doesn't let you know where their garden is?

This has indeed been raised before and I have replied personally to those who took the time to ask me. The garden birds thread is the only one I allow to not necessarily have any actual location included and its always been that way and will be. I don't personally see the point of having to attach a location to them to be honest, its merely an observer letting other know what they've seen, cannot be seen by others and has no ornithological value on this forum anyway. So why get annoyed about?

I raised the same point a month or two ago (not long after I joined). I was told that for reasons of privacy, etc, not all members will want to give even a general location.

Don't get this one if someone really wanted to get detailed personal information like name and address they would go to the Electoral Role, not a small corner of a birding website.

Cheers John.
