RE: Say NO to the World Logistics Hub

Unfortunately the Manchester public access map is terrible (on purpose?) so it makes it hard to find out for sure what the boundaries are for this application.

Sounds like Woodhouse Park (Painswick Park) may go which I find pretty incredible as this space is for the amenity of the public not big business. I've noticed the park has pretty much been abandoned by the council during this period of cuts, which ironically enough has improved its environmental value as rough grassland now ajoins bramble scrub. Lesser Whitethroat still breed in this area but are unlikely to if all the habitat is ripped out and replaced with concrete.

Henry.

I do not have a map readily to hand, so do not know the precise boundries, but I wonder if Lancashire or Cheshire Wildlife Trusts are aware of this latest Planning application ? It might be worth enquiring through official channels. I do know however, that "Manchester Airport" is a "Silver" Corporate Member of Lancs WT !?

Following on from the recently-approved World Logistics Hub, there is now a second major development, the 65-acre Airport City North, currently going through public consultation.

Here is the link to the full application (100831):

http://www.publicaccess.manchester.gov.uk/associateddocs/MCCList1.aspx?100831/OO/2012/S2

We really need to amass as much opposition to this as is possible while we still can, so please send your objections to Dave Lawless. Dave has said he will accept comments right up until Thursday morning (22nd). Objections can be sent to him on d.lawless@manchester.gov.uk The final decision will be made at the Manchester City Council Planning and Highways Meeting on 17th January, and it is possible to submit comments right up until then, although by then approval will presumably have been recommended by the Wythenshawe Area Committee.

Unfortunately Henry, it will probably only stop when someone realises that they have just felled the last tree, filled in the last lake and built over the last grasslands. There's a quote somewhere about only stopping destroying the environment for economics when people realise you can't eat bank notes. It's very true.

A shame to see another loss for the environment over short-termism and economic greed. Where does it stop?
Thanks to everyone who got involved in the campaign.

Very sadly the battle was lost last Thursday and planning permission was approved

I was there too. The speakers seemed totally against it, and then one of the labour MP's said 'Greenbelt building will have to happen, unfortunately'. Usual lack of clarity.
It is the same one that was totally against global warming and increasing CO2 emissions, but said the Shale Gas in Lancashire was basically irrelevant.

I was lucky enough to attend Environment Question time, run by the RSPB & Labour party last week, where this was briefly mentioned and sparked a fair debate about the quality of greenbelt land and wether there is ever an exception to the protection to make room building projects. it linked quite nicely then into 'Green Growth'. all very interesting, have taken rough notes if anybody in interested, though they are regarding a national level as opposed to being specific to this one!

I should add I am opposed to this!

Signed, even as a former airport worker, I wouldn't like to see it sprawl any further.

Once again many thanks to those who have signed the petition. Having read several of your passionate views on the e-petition I am back asking for more help, particularly from those of you know the local area.

Manchester Council have published the Planning Documents submitted by the airport and opponents have until 21st September to reply.

As I previously stated in the discussion forum we would be very keen for anybody interested and opposed to the plans to concrete Sunbank Lane to review Manchester Airport's claims about the effect of the proposed development on the native bird population - the airport's overall assessment is that the development will have a "minor adverse effect" on the local breeding bird habitat - I personally think this is an underestimation of the impact but I think those of you whom freqently walk this area are best placed to pass comment on the claims of the airport about the impact on the local bird population.

The council website is:- http://www.publicaccess.manchester.gov.uk/associateddocs/MCCList1.aspx?100263/OO/2012/S2
Having read further into the documents supplied by the airport the main report is in fact:-
100263-EIA-0002.pdf section 4.103 - the proposed effects of a "moderate adverse impact with minor adverse effect " on the breeding bird habitat are described under section 4.147.
Further info is contained in 100263-EIA-0009.pdf related to the studies performed.

Any further help you can provide us with would be much appreciated - I would ask you to submit your objections to Mr David Lawless : Senior Planner, PO Box 532, Town Hall, Manchester M60 2LA ref 100263/OO/2012/S2- we are currently centralizing our own responses to the following email address:- savesunbank@gmail.com.

Many thanks in advance for any of you who may help - the more letters of objections submitted the better.

Sadly, the government's proposals to cut through "red tape" (I would prefer to call it democracy) with regard to planning procedures will mean that soon we won't be able to stop this environmental destruction.

Many thanks to those who have signed the petition.

At long last Manchester Council have published the Planning Documents submitted by the airport and opponents have until 21st September to reply. Suffice to say there is a mountain of paperwork to get through.

I would be very keen for anybody interested and opposed to the plans to concrete Sunbank Lane to review Manchester Airport's claims about the effect of the proposed development on the native bird population - I think many of you walk this area often will be best placed to pass comment.

The council website is:- http://www.publicaccess.manchester.gov.uk/associateddocs/MCCList1.aspx?100263/OO/2012/S2
As far as I have read thus far 100263-EIA-0009.pdf is the main document commenting on the local bird population.

I would ask you to submit your objections to Mr David Lawless : Senior Planner, PO Box 532, Town Hall, Manchester M60 2LA or to savesunbank@gmail.com

Many thanks in advance for any of you who may help - the more letters of objections submitted the better.

It will be terrible to lose a local patch and the only rural site left in the whole of Manchester borough.

This development would be on the back of a decline in the cargo demand for Manchester airport so there isn't even an economic imperative for this.

Henry.

Unfortunately it seems that Manchester Council have only allowed around 2 weeks for any oppositions to be made so please sign the petition sooner rather than later

Totally. Have signed. Ridiculous destruction of habitat yet again. Once built, will then increase traffic, so encourage more road building etc etc.

Forgive the imposition on the website but I would like to gain as much support as possible to oppose the Airport (council and government's) plans to concrete Sunbank Lane.

Manchester Airport is cynically taking advantage of our current economic decline and the enterprise zone tag in destroying more of our greenbelt land to build freight warehouses on farmland and evicting local residents.

This will merely displace current jobs in order to take advantage of reduced rates due to the enterprise tag and will NOT create "new" jobs. This will have no effect on local unemployment or the local economy and will merely make a few wealthy people even richer, whilst creating more pollution and killing off the local wildlife. This will undoubtedly lead to the decline of the bird population in the surrounding neighbourhood.

Please sign this e- petition to save our countryside:-
