The lens is now on its way back from Nikon who have cleaned, tested and serviced it. No faults were found and having looked again at prices I'm asking £2100 for cash/bank transfer or maybe cash plus a D7000 if anyone interested in that? Just PM me to inspect the lens [should be back by Tuesday 18th]. Nikon invoice, test report and photos of the lens available by email. Also for sale elsewhere. Peter
My much loved 300mm f2.8 is shortly to be put up for sale as I've been lucky enough to upgrade to a VR version of the same lens. This is the AF-S Mk II D i.e. the last version before they added VR [which I believe is the only difference - glass etc being the same according to what I've read].
Condition is excellent as its been in neoprene camo covers since I bought it from the original owner [who'd used it twice for concerts before deciding to concentrate on other types of photography], no marks scratches and very, very minimal dust. Original Nikon bag and lens hood but no box I'm afraid. Best combination in my opinion for the money is use this with a 2.0TC and you have 600mm f5.6 when its sunny and 300mm f2.8 when its not!
It was serviced by Nikon before I bought it and had the SWM motor replaced.
Works really well with all Nikon TCs and you can see lots of examples on my trip reports and rarity photos on here - mainly used with a 2x TC III
Before I advertise it more widely I'm going to send it off to Nikon for a clean and service but if anyone wants to either make me an offer before its serviced [as that'll save me £200 I reckon] or have a look before it goes in just pm me and we can arrange to meet so you can inspect and try the lens.
This is a rare lens in terms of second hand sales and I expect to see it go for around £2,200 [None available at any of the major dealers I can see currently apart from the VR version at £3495 at Mifsuds, two the same as mine on ebay for £2400 from the US or Korea].
If anyone is interested let me know otherwise I'll post full details when its back from Nikon.
Cheers, Peter
