Wednesday 12th June, in the evening a bat flew out of the city centre and over the Mancunian Way at the Chester Road junction, looked like a Pipistrelle species.
White-Tailed Bumblebee yesterday evening deep in the city, feeding on Allium in a raised bed at New Bailey by the Irwell. Just upstream of Albert Bridge a Fig tree on the riverbank has some fruit on it
In the small basin by Society near the Bridgewater Hall today I was surprised to see a large shoal of c140 large looking Roach or perhaps Rudd close to the surface, but I know little about fish and didnt pick up on any key identification features, whatever they might be! Still, impressive to see them.
Ian
A very basic ID feature between Roach and Rudd is that the Rudd would have Crimson fins which would be evident at close quarters especially if they were active. These two species hybridize frequently, it then becomes very tricky unless they are in the hand of course !

In gardens at Manchester Craft Centre yesterday: at least 5 Southern Green Shieldbugs (final instars). Have reported this to the invasive bugs website. Apparently only third record for North of England.
Steve,
They won't destroy them, will they? Hope not as this is one I would certainly be on the lookout for. Saw them in France earlier this year.

At the Vimto Park today - a Brown Rat and a Harlequin Ladybird, the latter on the back of Mr Rigby's head, where it presumably landed in a frantic search for Aphids, the Yellow-Browed Warbler presumably having eaten all those in the surrounding trees.....
On Saturday 13th August, an adult and two young mink seen on the far bank of the Irwell, opposite to the cathedral. They went into an opening in the wall bordering the bank, which I think may have been a den. An official sighting has been made to the database.
A mink was spotted by a colleague of mine on Monday in the car park between Deansgate train station and the Mancunian way footbridge. Apparently, being mobbed by a murder of magpies!
