I'm afraid not. All records of this species in the UK currently reside in BOU Category E, that is: - Species recorded as introductions, human-assisted transportees or escapees from captivity, and whose breeding populations (if any) are thought not to be self-sustaining.

It's an escapee (only my opinion unless DNA proves otherwise ) Bald Ibis of some description as my identification was made only from a brief description given to me over the phone by a person on site at a time when it was an Ibis sp. So I have little detail to go any further.

There was a Bald Ibis at Lyme Park for a while recently so its undoubtably the same individual.

Nice bird either way

An escapee would have to be one or the other if it is a Waldrapp. Hate to bring this up but

Is it a northern or southern Bald Ibis or an escapee?

A Bald Ibis (the previously wandering bord from Cheshire?) has been present for about two weeks on fields at Ken Ward Sports Centre in Hattersley, Hyde, off West Hattersley Road. Still present at 4:10pm today.

Also, there is an excellent and comprehensive article on the Northern Bald Ibis online on Wikipedia, which gives a lot of the birds history and accounts of the wild populations in Morocco, Turkey(semi wild) and Syria,as well as the reintroduction programs.
Does anyone know if this bird, other than as an escapee, has ever been seen and recorded in the UK?

Just from a quick look on t'internet, there seem to be a few European Bald Ibis re-introduction programmes

Introduced to Turkey where a small population still survives approx 60 birds. A migratory population summering in Austria and wintering in Italy is ongoing with limited success. A third introduction is in Southern Spain where a small number are present. Morocco, some re introductions to areas that have lost ibis.
