Paxton Pits, Cambridgeshire.

Sorry late post.
Was working in Cambridge w/c 23/05.
In the couple of hours after work each night I visited :-
RSPB Fen Drayton
Of note Green Woodpecker and several Cuckoo's calling
RSPB Fowlmere - A lovely little reserve
Marsh Harrier
Turtle Dove
Green Woodpecker
Kingfisher
2 x Otter
Paxton Pits
1 x Great Reed Warbler - never stopped singing in the hour I watched it.
Green Woodpecker
Sadly no Nightingale but Paxton is known for them and I'm back down soon.

Friday 25th:
Riggers, Karen Foulkes and I arrived at Little Paxton not long after 5 a.m., calling first at Diddington Pit, at the start of a long weekend in East Anglia. As well as a good collection of water birds we managed to track down a Turtle Dove, heard Cuckoo, and had good views of several Garden Warblers and Lesser Whitethroats. Also added Green and Great Spotted Woodpecker to the trip list together with Yellowhammer. Moving on to Little Paxton we finally managed good views of Nightingale, together with fly-over male Cuckoo's (including one christened 'Klangers Cuckoo' due to it's comical call)
Other wildlife here included male Banded and female Beautiful Demoiselles, Muntjac, Brimstone and Orange Tip

As per my Norfolk report I called in here on the way down as it's well known for Nightingales.

I wasn't disappointed as I soon picked up the first calling bird near to Haydns hide. Despite hanging around though I could only manage a very brief view of this enigmatic bird.

Further down the path though near to Kingfisher hide I encountered another four calling birds and this time I managed some half decent views. As one flitted about in the trees calling away. I even managed a record shot or two as well. Another lifer for me and a cracking reserve to boot. If you couldn't hear Nightingales then you were hearing Garden Warblers, Willow warblers, Blackcaps, Chiffchaff and at least three Cuckoos. The river by the reserve is one of the most picturesque I've ever seen and a young Kingfisher completed the picture too.

Another place I'll be paying a visit to again in the future.
