hi martyn,looks like tony is right with wood pigeons egg. i have been looking through a few books i have and its the right size,colour and shape for wood pigeon.

Whilst out in the garden last weekend, my wife and I each found an egg on the lawn whilst mowing the grass on two separate occasions. At first I thought our cat's might have got them from a nearby nest, but Sarah said that her egg wasn't on the grass when she started mowing, and then it appeared. So now I currently favour the idea that they've been dropped by a Magpie or Crow flying over our garden - is this probable or possible?

They look to me as if they are either Wood Pigeon or Collared Dove eggs, but I wouldn't mind confirmation from forum members. The pictures are here on my blog.

Hi Martyn
I think these are too large for Collard Dove, probably Wood or Feral Pigeon. Also,
I don't think a Magpie's mouth is big enough to carry an egg of this size, so most
likely dropped by a crow or one of the larger gulls.
