Pair of Parakeets over our house near the Ring o'Bells this weekend, first time I've seen them up here - they've been in the Brabyn's / Marple Hall area for some time I know

A small flock of 9 greenfinches in a tree on top of the ridge at 4 p.m. Flew off as a kestrel flew over but returned to same place.

Another Red Kite sighting near the Ring O'Bells, this time it headed towards Marple Bridge before we lost sight. A short while later picked it up again at some distance, circling over Etherow Park and the lower reaches of Werneth Low.

Didn't manage to get photo but have just (five minutes ago) seen a RED KITE over our house (near the Ring O'Bells, just before the ridge), it was circling and headed off towards the church and Roman Lakes. Absolutely thrilled!

Another walk up to the Ridge & then through to High Lane, mainly to monitor the progress of a couple of Lapwing pairings in adjacent fields.

Both pairs seemed fine on first inspection with females 'sitting'.
Continued my walk & then retraced my steps about an hour later.

Lapwing pair No.1 seemed ok, female still in the same position as earlier.
However, on arrival at site no.2, there was no sign of the pair, due to about 12 people of varying ages (looked like a family party of grandparents, parents & teenage kids standing in the field with 3 members firing air rifles at a target that had been sited not a million miles from where female no.2 had been lsituated.

Spent the next 10 minutes trying to relocate the pair & eventually found the male bird, in another field, but the female didn't appear to be about, but will have a wander up to the site later this week to see what the situation is.

Other than that, plenty of Goldfinch, Greenfinch & Chaffinch, Robins, Nuthatch, Wren & a couple of Pied Wags.

1 Brown Hair in the field containing Lapwings No.1
