Numerous Coots, adults & juveniles mostly hidden in Amphibious Bistort
1 Curlew flying over

The 16 Common Scoters were still well settled at 12.30pm.
Thanks to John for the text this morning. Another call when I was making toast. At least I did not have to rush breakfast as I did with the Greenish Warbler alert.

Other birds seen (9.20am to 12.30pm) included :-
2 Great Crested Grebes
3 Cormorants
4 Grey Herons
33 Canada Geese
4 Mallards
2 Moorhens
6 Coots + juveniles
2 Curlews on nearby fields
3 Black-headed Gulls
1 Lesser Black-backed Gull landed briefly
3 Swifts
Pair of Common Terns. Have been resident for a while now, with the male taking food to the female at the overflow. As discussed with John Barlow as we watched the Scoters maybe they need a bit of help to breed here, as with Doffcocker.

All of a sudden one of the birds flew within a few yards, even drawing comments from fisrtly a chap with a youngster, who said "is that an Arctic Tern", and then a woman following behind who said "that's an Arctic Tern isn't it". Binoculars not needed as it was so close, blood-red bill and streamers clearly visible. Her husband was put to rights as he had just told her "It's just another gull ". I got the feeling he won't forget that remark for some time.
