Hi Neil, I don't know if you are aware, but there is already a minewater treatment plant not far from you, just downstream of Blundell's Wood on the Pemberton Colliery site, with footpaths around the reedbed and pond areas. I've seen Kingfisher up there.

Neil,

It sounds very similar to the "Aspull Sough" minewater treatment ponds on the Whelley/New Springs side of HCP. As to whether it "may be of interest when its finished", don`t hold your breath . Saying that, at Aspull Sough there are Reed Warblers probably breeding, and once even, a Tufted Duck graced us with its presence...

The one good thing about it at least will be the fact that your field will not have houses built upon it !

I live in Grebe Close Highfield Wigan.

This is currently taking place in the large field at the side of my house on the other side of the stream.

From the planning permission application.

"A mine water treatment scheme incorporating an access, a pumping
borehole, settlement ponds, a wetland area, a drying bed, an ancillary building
and landscaping works."

It looks like The Somme at the moment but they seem to have excavated a very large hole presumably for a lake. It's all fenced off at present whether the fence will come down when it's complete remains to be seen.
You can access via Brook Lane if you want to have a look.
