Annoyed to see that the field that had all the Clouded Yellows recently has been mowed. No doubt most of the butterflies will have perished as well.
But did find another Clouded Yellow in a different field.

Afternoon visit
Little Woolden Moss LWTNR
Butterflies:- 4 Painted Ladies, 1 Brimstone, 5 Common Blues, 6 Speckled Wood, 5 Meadow Brown,

7 Gatekeepers and 1 Small White (Although several white butterflies were seen in flight and could

not be identified).

Odonata:- Several Brown Hawkers, 2 Southern Hawkers, 2 Common Darters and 6 Black Darters.

Minimum of six and three Purple Hairstreaks high up in two oaks along 12 Yards this late afternoon. Over a dozen Holly Blue, many Comma and Red Admiral, Peacock and Large White. Good numbers of Black Darter dragonflies at the junction of 12 Yards and Cutnook.

Butterflies:- 4 male Orange-Tips, singles of Brimstone and Speckled Wood.
Plus Peacocks in abundance.

Also 4 Green Tiger Beetles and lots of St.Marks Flies.

Plus 3 Large Red Damselflies.

Little Woolden Moss LWTNR

Afternoon visit 13.00-16.30 approx

Butterflies :- 1 Meadow Brown (On bramble flowers on South side of reserve), 3 Large Skippers

and 2 Small Tortoiseshells. 1 Cinnabar Moth

Odonata:- 6+ Four Spotted Chasers and 2 Emperor Dragonflies, numerous Large Red, Common Blue

plus 1 Blue-tailed Damselflies.

There were quite a few Green Tiger Beetles along the reserve path.

First odonata for the county in 2025 this a.m. along Astley Rd, a teneral damselfly (of course), but before I could pin it down, a vehicle flushed it.

A Common Carder Bee just about still active on Perennial Sow Thistle in Wednesday's slightly milder weather, but more surprisingly still a couple of Odonata active - unfortunately not close enough to identify to species but distinctive enough. The first directly out from the display board at the site of the ex-hide, possible hunting the small black flies interested in sharing my lunch, the other hunting the long waterbody along the western side of the A Bog's Life trail.

Also 3 Common Puffballs on the nature reserve and a good crop of Shaggy Inkcap on the fields immediately to the west of the reserve. Plus a single well away from them on Cadishead Moss
