The road crosses the River near the garden centre and there is a lay-by further along (before the climb to Crime Lake). Park here and cross the footbridge over the River. You can now walk up-stream all the way to Park Bridge and hopefully find you quarry. Good luck, Mark

Thanks mark, her indoors said she thought she saw a kingfisher on the river on the left just as you drive onto daisy nook garden centre. bit am not sure how to get on to that part of the river to check it out, cheers

Hi Stephen, in terms of dippers, there are a fair few in manchester, I'd agree with it being a good bet looking down the road from Greenfield train station near the kingfisher, though not sure whether photo opportunities are great. In terms of woodpeckers, if you want GS Woodpecker, most large woods or parks have a few in, but i've always found broad ees dole's (sale water park) is OK for them. For Green Woodpecker, dunham park's a good bet. Kingfisher is a difficult one, particularly if you want to photograph ones. There are birds about, but most times I see them is when they fly past. I've seen one in ladybrook once or twice, but have no idea where it fishes from. Your best bet to photograph one is to find a bird and watch it until you find a suitable spot to watch it from. Out of county, there's one that sits right in front of the hide at leighton moss at morecambe hide (at least it does in the winter), well in range of a 300mm lens. Good luck!

well you could try stalybridge, i've seen dipper right in the middle of it by tesco

alternatively go stand on the bridge where springbank lane crosses the river. in heyrod for about half an hour you will see both king fisher and dipper. and if you walk down the canal towpath to get there you should get your great spotted wood pecker too

hi welcome to the forum for dippers you cant beat the river tame in greenfield around the kingfisher pub and then downstream from there also great spot and green woodpeckers fairly regularly and kingfisher also but since the last two winters the later are quite rare

Hello to you all out there in bird land, i am quite new to this (6months ish) and i enjoy photographing the birds that i manage to see and would love to see woodpeckers,king fishers and dippers i visit audenshaw ressers quite often and have got some fantastic birds there but would like to add the others to my pictures. I live in stalybridge but know a lot of surrounding areas like bredbury romiley etc. any help would be very much apperciated, thanks.
