As John suggests mallard will eat almost anything. Barley is one of the best and cheapest foods - if you throw it in the water it will sink, therefore preventing problems with rats. Anything up to 18" of water should be okay, mallard will simply upend to reach it, whilst tufties and pochard will dive. You should be able to get a 20kg sacks for under a tenner, although that quantity may be too much for what you require! Try any shop selling pigeon or horse food. Mixed corn (chicken feed) is okay too, you should be able to get a 20kg sack for around £8.00.

yep they will eat anything like that-i get a 4kg bag of bird seed for about £ 4 from the major supermarkets that works finesmile.gifthey will eat any sead or pulse like barley-oats etcsmile.gif

I take normal cheapest bird seed for the mallards etc and just open the bag walk along a bit ,like mini martin mere feeding,and before you know it there are ducks feeding happily along the bank,as long as there are no dogs about ,that should be fine.smile.gif

l've been asked by a fellow nanny what alternative food there are for their charges to feed the ducks. l know in Dunham Massey Park, you can buy duck food from the shop but where can we buy stuff from locally ?
