Prompted by a post on the Pennington thread re. hearing what seemed to be a Marsh Tit but it possibly being a Great Tit I recently observed a Great Tit near Hawkley Hall feeding station Wigan Flashes making the most extraordinary sounds. I first heard what I thought was something like a high-pitched Goldcrest trill but could not locate any Goldcrest. Something seemed wrong about the song too. I then realised the sound was coming from a Great Tit which was the only bird I could see in the bush. I could also see its bill opening as I heard the wonky song it was making. It proves the old adage 'if you hear something you've never heard before it's probably a Great Tit'.
